Commanders Suffer Crushing Defeat as Josh Allen Leads Bills to a 37-3 Victory

In a game that will haunt Commanders fans, the Washington Commanders endured a crushing 37-3 defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. The focus was squarely on the Commanders as Josh Allen and the Bills showcased their dominance on the field.

Despite the muddy conditions, the Commanders found themselves unable to leave their mark on the game. Dressed in all white, they barely got dirty, but the same couldn’t be said for their performance. This loss served as a stark contrast to their previous wins against Arizona and Denver, revealing glaring issues in the offensive line.

Josh Allen, on the other hand, was nothing short of spectacular. He threw for a touchdown and added another on the ground, all while remaining untouched by the Commanders’ defense. Allen completed 20 of 32 passes for 218 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Davis. His 10-yard rushing touchdown demonstrated his dual-threat abilities, accumulating a total of 46 yards on the ground.

“It’s easy to play the game when your defense comes up for you like that and puts you in good situations,” Allen commented after the game. He did self-reflect on an interception on third-and-20, which essentially functioned as a punt. “Our offense did what we had to do, but our defense balled out.”

The Commanders, meanwhile, had a day to forget. Rookie quarterback Sam Howell faced relentless pressure from the Bills’ defense, getting sacked a whopping nine times and throwing four interceptions, including a pick-six by A.J. Epenesa that left many Commanders fans heading for the exits. The defense also forced a fumble, maintaining an impressive 19-2 record since 2019 when facing quarterbacks with 16 or fewer NFL starts.

This performance by the Bills’ defense marked just the sixth occurrence since the inception of the Super Bowl era in 1966 and the first since 1995 in which a defense recorded nine or more sacks and four or more interceptions in a single game.

“It’s been fun,” remarked Terrel Bernard, who became the first NFL player with two or more sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery since Brian Urlacher in 2007. “Just building confidence that I can do it.”
