Derek Carr’s Injury Scare: Saints Quarterback’s Shoulder Health in Spotlight

In a dramatic turn of events, the New Orleans Saints faced their first loss of the season against the Green Bay Packers, with the game overshadowed by the injury to star quarterback Derek Carr’s right shoulder, leading to his hospitalization for further evaluation.

Initial concerns were significant, but emerging reports suggest that Derek Carr may have narrowly escaped a more severe injury. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Carr sustained an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder. The silver lining in this situation is that after extensive tests, no additional damage was found in his throwing shoulder.

Carr’s return to the field hinges on the degree of swelling and his progress in regaining mobility, as explained by Rapoport. While he may need to sit out some games, there’s optimism that it won’t result in a season-ending setback for the Saints’ star quarterback.

Derek Carr's Injury Scare: Saints Quarterback's Shoulder Health in Spotlight

The unfortunate incident occurred in the third quarter when Derek Carr faced a devastating sack by Packers linebacker Rashan Gary. The intensity of the tackle left Carr vulnerable, and he couldn’t shield himself while clutching onto the football.

Despite the slow recovery after the tackle, Carr managed to walk off the field. Following a brief evaluation in the medical tent, he was directed to the locker room. Jameis Winston took charge as the quarterback for the remainder of the game after Carr was ruled out due to the injury.

At the stadium, Carr underwent X-rays to assess his shoulder’s condition before being transported to a local hospital for additional tests, including an examination to rule out potential internal injuries.

Head coach Dennis Allen confirmed Carr’s hospitalization during his postgame press conference, expressing deep concern for his star quarterback’s well-being.

Before the injury, Carr’s performance was impressive. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 103 yards and delivered an 8-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jimmy Graham. Sadly, the Saints couldn’t maintain their lead, as the Packers capitalized on Carr’s absence, scoring 18 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to snatch victory from the Saints’ grasp.

Coach Allen voiced his disappointment at the missed opportunity, saying, “I feel like we let one slip through our hands.” The game’s outcome was sealed with a missed 46-yard field goal attempt by Blake Grupe with just 1:10 remaining on the clock.
