Usher Takes Center Stage as Super Bowl Halftime Performer

In a stunning announcement, the NFL and Apple Music have confirmed that Usher, the beloved R&B icon, will be the star performer at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. The revelation came in a rather unconventional manner, as reality TV star Kim Kardashian used the opening scene of Usher’s unforgettable “Confessions, Pt. II” music video to break the news.

Kardashian’s declaration was simple yet profound: “I finally got the answer to those rumors. It’s not about me. It’s about you,” she proclaimed. Usher’s response in the clip was filled with enthusiasm, as he exclaimed, “Quit playing with me, man.”

Usher, whose full name is Usher Raymond, eagerly shared the news with his fans on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, with a concise message: “LAS VEGAS. APPLE MUSIC HALFTIME SHOW. #SBLVIII.” He expressed immense gratitude, describing it as the “honor of a lifetime” and a momentous achievement to check off his bucket list.

“I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher stated with enthusiasm. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”

Seth Dudowsky, the NFL’s head of music, was equally thrilled, describing the upcoming halftime show as an extraordinary moment in history. “Usher is an icon whose music has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape throughout his career. We couldn’t be more excited to have him headline this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show,” Dudowsky emphasized.

Usher is currently in residency at Las Vegas’s Park MGM, a fact Kardashian alluded to in her announcement. She noted that the halftime performance would be a unique experience distinct from his ongoing Vegas show, setting the stage for an unforgettable spectacle.

The Super Bowl halftime slot is among the most-watched television events of the year. Rihanna’s performance last February drew over 121 million viewers, narrowly surpassing Katy Perry’s 2015 show, according to Billboard.

Throughout the years, the Super Bowl halftime show has featured a lineup of music legends, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Prince, Janet Jackson, the Rolling Stones, and Madonna. In some years, individual artists have taken the stage, while in others, a collective of top talents has collaborated, as seen in last year’s hip hop tribute featuring Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige.
